The Department of Ophthalmology at The Indian Institute of Diabetes is well equipped to cater to the requirements of a detailed Ophthalmic evaluation .The Department is furnished with State of the Art equipment for a comprehensive Examination of the Eye, Anterior and Posterior segments All patients registered at IID are evaluated in the Ophthalmic OPD by appointment.
This includes Visontesting, Refraction, Slt lamp Biomicroscopy, I O P measurement. Posterior segment evaluation is done after dilating the eye. This includes Fundus Examination, Indirect Ophthalmoscopy, and Fundus Photography. OCT Optical Coherence Tomography for selected cases.
As per the Institutes protocol, these tests are done annually for regular patient’s Regular follow ups for detected Retinopathy. Those patients requiring intervention are referred to Vitreo Retinal Surgeon.
Why Screening for Retinopathy?
One of the Microvascular complication of Diabetes is Diabetic Retinopathy, which if undetected or untreated can lead to Blindness. Hence all effort is made to detect any retinal abnormality in the early stage, before onset of symptoms and necessary measures taken to prevent the progression.
